New product to stop hair loss. A few times ago, scientists have discovered an enzyme that plays a role in hair loss which many experienced men. In two years, working with pharmaceutical companies to release products that block the enzyme.
Dermatologist based in the U.S. earlier this year announced they discovered an enzyme, called prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), which instructed the follicles stop producing hair. Scientist identified PGD2 with screened 250 genes involved in hair loss.
George Cotsarelis, chief of dermatology at Pennsylvania University, said the level of PGD2 plays a major role in hair loss. Cooperation with pharmaceutical to produce a drug that reduces the level of PGD2 thus quickly reduce baldness.
About four out of five men will experience some degree of hair loss by age 70 years. In those who go bald, hair follicles are still growing, but shorter than before. The resulting hair will become shorter until barely visible or even not come to the surface of the scalp.
Cotsarelis and colleagues found, PGD2 levels in men who experience hair loss three times higher than those who did not experience it.
“We really think if you eliminate hair growth inhibitors (caused by PGD2), you’ll have long hair,” he said, as quoted from Health. According to him, not only stop hair loss, a new product has the potential to grow a thick hair.
